CODFA PRESIDENT STANKO ADDRESSES BOT: OPPORTUNITES FOR ALL CONSTITUENCIES TO COLLABORATE

Nancy Stanko, President of the COD Faculty Association and Professor of Office Technology Information, made the following comments to the Board of Trustees at its meeting April 15, 2010:

Good evening Board of Trustees, Dr. Breuder, and all people in the audience.

Congratulations to our students that have received awards on the Forensics Team, and our faculty and staff that have worked so hard to help our students achieve these awards. Together they have put hundreds of hours in achieving these awards.

Thank you Student Trustee Ashley Wilson for your service as Student Trustee, and welcome Student Trustee Kristen Lodygowski.

We are excited that this evening's Agenda includes the approval of the New Sustainable Interior Design Certificate.

Many teachers and students will attend Lobby Days next week in Springfield to support all public schools, including community colleges and higher education. "Save our Schools" is the theme for this year.

We believe that through support of the $168 million NO TAX RATE INCREASE capital referendum, it will provide an opportunity for our Board, administration, faculty, and staff to collaborate to improve the quality of the education provided by our institution as a whole. I have indicated to Dr. Breuder that we will support the pursuit of this referendum if it is his recommendation to you that we pursue this.

We will request further information from Dr. Breuder and you, the Board, regarding the rationale and details of the proposed construction projects and the funding of the operating expenses of the completed projects if it is the Board's decision to move forward with the pursuit of the referendum.

All College groups are working diligently to establish and staff our steering committees for the Shared Governance System.

Thank you.
