Welfare Note #25

Another offering in a series of "Welfare Notes" that has been created by the Welfare Committee which are intended to ensure that all members of the Faculty Association are educated, informed, or updated in terms of welfare-related concerns and their rights contained within the Contractual Agreement.

Meeting the Staff Development Requirement

Each faculty member must earn three (3) semester credit hours every three (3) years. These three credits might be earned through enrollment in College of DuPage "in-house" courses, staff development seminars, coursework, workshops, etc. and may be applicable towards range changes. These credits may be related to assessment of student learning, instructional methodologies, learning strategies, or advising. Other enrollment options may include courses in the Faculty Member's academic area or area of assignment, computer courses, and Education courses. The deadline for completion of this requirement for this is June 30, 2010.

Faculty members that do not meet this requirement face the following consequences:

  1. Salary frozen until the beginning of the next fiscal year providing the staff development requirement is completed during the current fiscal year.
  2. No advancement is experience factor. However, the faculty continues to earn experience factors but they are not granted until the beginning of the fiscal year after the staff development requirement is completed.
  3. No increases on the base for a minimum of one year or as long as the faculty member fails to comply.
