Welfare Note #16

Another offering in a series of "Welfare Notes" that has been created by the Welfare Committee which are intended to ensure that all members of the Faculty Association are educated, informed, or updated in terms of welfare-related concerns and their rights contained within the Contractual Agreement.

Summer Assignments

Section F 6 of our Contractual Agreement for 2003 through 2007 contains the provisions for Faculty assignments for summer under the semester system. See: http://www.cod.edu/dept/Hum_Res/EMPL_COD/FTFacContract.htm#
F%206%20%20SUMMER%20ASSIGNMENTS

Full-time load during summer term

Faculty Members assigned a full-time load during the summer will be required to complete 30 % of an academic year’s full load. For example, if your usual teaching load is 15 contact hours per semester or 30 contact hours per academic year, your full-time summer load would be 9 contact hours. For Faculty Members teaching courses with contact hours in excess of credit hours, the normal teaching load is 16 contact hours per semester or 32 contact hours per academic year; hence, a full-time load for summer would be 9.6 contact hours.

Office hours and Mutually-agreed upon service

Overload

Overload assignments (contact hours in excess of the aforementioned totals) will be compensated at the same rate of pay as authorized for part-time faculty.

Less than full-time load

Term and work week length limits

Finally, no Faculty Member will be assigned more than a 4 day work week in any summer session without his/her written consent and all summer classes will be scheduled over 8 or fewer consecutive weeks. Please refer to Section F 6 (http://www.cod.edu/dept/Hum_Res/EMPL_COD/FTFacContract.htm#

) of our Contractual Agreement for additional insight and understanding of the contractual provisions for summer assignments under the semester system.
