Welfare Note #14
Another offering in a series of "Welfare Notes" that has been created by the Welfare Committee which are intended to ensure that all members of the Faculty Association are educated, informed, or updated in terms of welfare-related concerns and their rights contained within the Contractual Agreement.
Recently there has been some confusion regarding the definition of a contact hour here at College of DuPage. And, it is important that we all operate with the same understanding of a contact hour. Just as a reminder, we share the following:
Definition of a Contact Hour
Section D 7.1 of our Contractual Agreement for 2003 through 2007 defines Teaching Faculty workload under semesters in terms of contact hours. In order to assist Faculty Members in clarifying the language in Section D 7.1, a contact hour is defined as "a regularly scheduled period of fifty minutes." For example, a four contact hour course that meets daily would conduct class four times each week for a period of 50 minutes each class meeting. Another example; a two contact hour course that meets once a week for a total of 100 minutes of instruction.
As always, please read the Contractual Agreement between the Board and the Association first! If you have any questions, feel free to contact any member of the Welfare Committee.
